Artist Statement

 

My work is realized through a balance of process, materials, and content. Combining bright, lurid colors (with layers of paint and glitter), images lifted from advertising and gay male erotica, and words that evoke a cheap approximation of poetry, I create stories that project beyond a linear narrative to enflame a potent curiosity and incite agitation. In other pieces, I abandon images and words altogether to construct scenarios that arouse a heady sense of containment, spill over, and eruption. The studio continues to be the place where I feel most at home: a learning laboratory where I can launch ideas, test equations, and attempt to create magic.
