Artist Statement

The natural world has been a source of artistic inspiration and contemplation for centuries. My personal relationship with nature began in childhood when I often took walks through the woods near my home to mull over decisions, disagreements with friends and family, and plan my future. These long walks allowed me to escape the monotony and distraction of everyday life as well as provided me with an environment in which I could be myself, breathe, and simply just be. My artwork focuses on the reflective beauty found in nature’s rhythmic patterns and movement, fleeting moments, magnified organic structures, natural processes, and objects shaped by geological processes. The meditative quality of nature is echoed in my paintings through the repetition of color relationships, surface, space, and biomorphic forms combined with an abstract compositional structure and defined shapes. I strive to create a calming visual space that encourages introspective moments and as a reminder of the effortless beauty of the natural world.
